Journalist/Photojournalist/Writer
PUBLISHED ARTICLES
As a journalism student with a creative writing background, I cut the fluff, but understand how to keep the reader engaged. I've found that with magazine writing I can incorporate more of my creative voice while still reporting the facts of the story.
Here are some articles I've written for various campus publications, like UGAzine, The Red & Black and Ampersand Magazine. I also have an article I co-wrote with the Editor in Chief of Atlanta Magazine's HOME for the Fall 2018 magazine.

In my last semester of undergrad, my journalism capstone has been focused around housing in Athens, GA. The first two links below link to our campus online publication, Grady Newsource, where my articles have been published.

For all of these publications, I've mostly written culture or feature pieces. Athens has a one-of-a-kind music and art community that has shaped the culture of the college town. In a city with so much creativity, there are so many stories to be told.
THE LONE RESIDENT
OCTOBER 15, 2018
During my senior capstone I focused on different housing issues and concerns in Athens, GA. Since Athens is a college town, a unique issue facing permanent residents is studentification—it's like gentrification but with an influx of students in neighborhoods. I explored this issue with my own neighbor, Mrs. Duncan.
GOING GREEN WITH YOUR GREENS
FEBRUARY, 2018
I wrote this lifestyle article for Ampersand Magazine. The idea to do an article on sustainable farming came to me after studying abroad in Ireland and consuming local, fresh produce daily. I knew Athens had a booming farmers market and I wanted to see what local restaurants serve local produce. By interviewing farmers, I noticed a trend in government subsidies for land and the growth in the local farmers market.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE
MARCH 2018
This is a feature piece I wrote for Ampersand Magazine, which is the sister publication of The Red & Black. I cover the multiple youth-focused mentorship programs in Athens. Besides writing culture articles, I'm drawn to issues within the Athens community and how we as students can make a difference.
JACKNIFE LEE, MUSIC PRODUCER COMES TO ATHENS
NOVEMBER 2016
I wrote this in my first semester at The Red & Black. It was by far the most intimidating assignment I had received, but Lee gave me 30 minutes of his time and reminded me that despite success we are all the same. This is still my favorite profile.
WALDEN: THE SWEETEST SOUND IN ATHENS
SPRING 2016
This article was written for a student-run magazine on campus. The theme was "sweet treats" so I profiled a band that categorizes themselves as "Nice-Guy Rock." Since writing this article, I've covered Walden on their Road to Roo, a battle of the bands to play at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.
NO HOME FOR THE SUMMER
JULY 2017
This article ran on the front page of The Red & Black. I wrote the piece originally for my Writing Across Platforms class and pitched the story to my editor. The homeless population is often overlooked in the college town. This article shows how Athenians and students can help those who need it in the community.
