UNVEILING THE WRITER

Some people have known since birth who and what they wanted to be when they grew up. Not me. I knew that I loved writing, and I've always had a more than normal curiosity in people's stories. As most children do, I constantly asked, "why?" Only, I never stopped asking and to my benefit that curiosity is necessary to be a journalist/writer.

In December, I graduated from Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. I have written articles for the student-run newspaper, The Red & Black, as well as the newspaper’s sister magazine, Ampersand.

During the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to intern for Atlanta Magazine's HOME publication. As intern, I saw the publishing process first-hand. From researching trends, to interviewing and writing articles, I assisted the editor in creating the Fall 2018 magazine.

In the future I hope to write for a magazine, or a web-based publication. I can also see myself working at a publishing house, specifically in Children's Literature. As long as I’m writing, or surrounded by books, I’ll be happy.

My writing covers a variety of topics from non-profits, to music reviews. One of my favorite pieces is a profile on Jacknife Lee, a music producer for known bands like R.E.M., U2 and Taylor Swift. I have also been drawn to the various non-profit organizations in Athens and the work they do for the community.

In addition to being a writer, I am a photojournalist. I have covered everything from daily beat photos, to longer projects, like documenting the captain of the women’s lacrosse team here at UGA. For that project, I produced an audio/photo package of the captain. In the spring semester, I documented the story of a tattoo artist here in Athens.
